Learning Hardware The Hard Way!!

Mobiles Get VGA resolution displays »

What high-end “PDA’s” had, now smart phones will too. “VGA” resolution displays. At the recent SID(Society For Information Display) conference held in San Francisco, TPO(Formely Toppoly & phiips) displayed their 2-inch VGA (640×480) screen.
So far companies adopted the Sub Pixel Rendering technology to manufacture screens but TPO took optimized the LTPS(Low Temperature Polysilicon) technology to produce a screen resolution so high.

Super Prisms For TV »

Arrays of thousands of tiny “super prisms” controlled by robotic muscles could bring about a sweeping change in television technology in the form of real color to TV screens for the first time.
The devices, known as electrically tunable Diffraction Gratings have been built by researchers in switzerland, and can manipulate light to reproduce the full spectrum of colors on television screens. The existing technology allows a TV manufacturer to use only three primary colors(reg, green, blue)to reproduce all the colors visible on screen.
But this new technology uses a flexible approach for all the colors of the spectrum visible to the naked eye by creating a diffraction grating, a slotted grate like a miniature venetian blind. unlike solid grate, these grates are made up of flexible polymers, normally used to build artificial muscles in robots as they can contract when voltage is applied to them.

Normal Recording V/S Perpendicular Recording. »

With reference to my previous article on An Alternate Solution to Hard Drive Recording, I would now want to explain u’ll how this fascinating technology works.
1)Write Element:
The write element is the head and it is basically an electromagnet which when supplied with current, generates a magnetic field that changes the north and south of the tiny particles on the writing medium (this is how the data is written in the drive). In the longitudinal magnetic recording system, the magnetic field that is generated by the electromagnet has a higher longitudinal component than the perpendicular component.

An Alternate Solution To Hard Drives Recording. »

Since the launch of the hard disk drives it has been very popular in the computer industry from saving people to loose their valuable data. But has anyone ever taught about the technology used beneath the working of the so called hard drive. Like with every good thing there is a bad thing associated with it, the same way along with the advantages of the hard drives there exists some of the limitations with the working of the hard disk.

Moore’s Law on Course »

Did you know that ‘Moore’s Law which postulated that the number of transistors on a chip will roughly double every 18 to 24 months, faced a major barrier- power leakage? Not anymore. By the use of materials termed “high-k”, IBM and Intel have said in early 2007 that they have set Moore’s law valid for atleast 6 years. The development means continued shrinking of computer chips.
