Ever dreamed of exploring the true human soul?Ever wondered how life is outside the confines of your warm homes?Well then you must read ‘MotorCycle Diaries’ by Ernesto ‘Che’ Geuvara.

To those unaware of the persona of ‘Che’,let me brush up some history chapters.Ernesto was born Ernesto Geuvara de la Serna on 14th June 1928 in Argentina. His family was a bit left leaning.Ernesto was a voracious reader since childhood. He went on to pursue medicine in college.Later on he met up with Fidel Castro and joined the Cuban revolution against dictator Fulgencio Batista.

When he was 23 he went on for a trip of the entire Latin American continent on a Motorcycle(a ‘39 Norton 500 for those bikers out there).During this time he maintained a diary which was later published as ‘The Motorcycle Diaries’.

The diaries are a symbol of youth and the wandering spirit of the young.Che starts the diary with this note

“This isn’t a tale of heroic feats, nor is it merely some kind of ‘cynical account’; it isn’t meant to be, at least. It’s a chunk of two lives running parallel for a while, with common aspirations and similar dreams.”

At one point of time he reflects

“Was our vision too narrow, too partial, too rushed? Were our conclusions too rigid?Maybe…..but that aimless roaming through our enormous America has changed me more than i thought…..

I……..

……..am not myself anymore

At least, I’m not the same inside

It was this wandering through the entire continent that led el Che into witnessing abject poverty and a striking contrast between the exploiters and the exploited. He went on to become a Communist idol. His death in 1967 at the age of 39 sent shock waves through out the world.

Though I do not approve of his Political Ideology(Communism),he remains an inspiration for his conviction and integrity.Well let me stop here,as everyone always says,I might wander into the debate of Communism vs Capitalism.Viva el Che!
