Ozone Hole Shrink Back To Average Size

NASA on Friday said, that the Antarctic ozone hole is back to an average size, shrinking about 16 percent from last year’s record high. Also NASA released following statistic..
- Last Year maximum size of ozone hole was 11.5 million square miles last year and now this year it is 9.7 million square miles.
- The ozone hole was first discovered in 1985, is not natural, and at the current rate should be closed up by 2070.
- Nearly 80 percent of the ozone-depleting chemicals in the atmosphere are man-made.
- These compounds stay in the atmosphere for 40 to 100 years and the total amount of chlorine compounds in the air is only down 3.1 percent since 2001.
- For the past 15 years or so, the ozone hole has been about the same size, going up slightly and down slightly, mostly based on the weather.
I have attached a image, below which explains how ozone layer protects, earth from ultra violet rays, and how the hole causes the rays to reach the earth…

According to Newman, from NASA the much warmer weather and more number of storms this year are the reason the hole is slightly smaller.Does the shrinking of Ozone hole, means that we are sealing improvement? NO. It is all because of the weather change, this is what NASA atmospheric scientist Paul Newman said.
