Last Saturday,my US returning uncle asked me the most scary question that any gaming freak like me would not like to answer. He coolly asked me “Which gaming console do u want?A PLAYSTATION 3 or XBOX 360?Well,i have not yet given him an answer.OfCourse,I would not mind any one of them,as they say, beggers cannot be choosers, but come to think of it,it is really a tricky situation for me.And then there is NINTENDO Wii..OH LORD!!As if the situation was not bad already!

I started weighing my options based on certain information i had about the consoles.Sony’s Playstation 3 has a 2GHZ processor which is unheard of in any console in the market. It also boasts of a 20 GB Harddisk to store games and movies.Xbox 360 has an advantage in the cost department as it is cheaper than an PS3 but the hardware on which XBOX 360 works is not as advanced as PS3.The NINTENDO Wii has advanced motion sensors which helps the users perform the actions in the game making it a truely unique experience that everyone in the family can enjoy. The nintendo Wii doesn’t have the graphics of PS3 or the cost factor of XBOX but it is a console that can be played by my 5 year old nephew to my 65 year old grandfather. So,which option do you choose.Suddenly my sight falls on my computer. What happens to the computer once a console enters to my house??

I believe i am not the only one who faces this problem while going for a console.I partially give the blame to the console makers for not marketing their “work of art” to suit certain criteria. They all seem the same to me.And the companies themselves misguide their potential customers by some skewed figures.Last week, Nintendo Australia made an official public announcement about the success of the Wii down under, with the console becoming the fastest to reach 100,000 units sold down under. Now Sony Australia have gone on an offensive saying saying the PlayStation 3 has been the number one selling next-gen console in the country since its launch, outselling the Wii and the Xbox 360 almost every week. The war of the consoles doesn’t end there. It also stretches to the High Defination Television(HD-TV) market.Sony backs its BLUE-RAY disk technology whereas Microsoft XBOX has the HD-DVD technology.Another shot was fired on both fronts this week, when Sony announced that from July 1 to September 30, customers who purchase Blu-ray technology using PS3 will receive five free Blu-ray movies from a list of 21 choices like Babel,The Italian Job,Pearl Harbor and other such intresting films.

Last week really tested my decision making abilities.AMD announced last week that it is about to launch the most advanced Graphics card yet which uses the most impressive silicon ever produced with more than half a billion transistors, hundreds of processors and half a gigabyte of memory. It will try to take full advantage of DirectX 10 technology with only a few gaming cards which actually make use of this technology. At $400,or Rs16000,the Radeon 2900 XT is a steal for any hardcore gamer who doesn’t want to splash another Rs25000 on getting a latest console.Nvidia, the market leader in Graphic card sales,is planning to come up with a better graphic card then what AMD promises to give(Competition everywhere!!).Its GeForce family will add the 8800 Ultra to its rank early next year.At $800,its a tad bit expensive, but professional gamers wont mind the price, its the quality that they crave.
Who wins this war is yet to be seen,in the meantime, please help me make up my mind!!
